City Overview
Why Pune Works
Explore Pune on the map
A domestic move to Pune is the calmest premium-tier choice you can make in India. The climate is unmatched among major metros, the cost of living runs 40-50% below Mumbai for equivalent space, and the city offers genuine intellectual, cultural, and infrastructure depth without the intensity of Mumbai or the sprawl of Bangalore. The trade-off is real, quieter nights, no sea, no major international airport, but for many intra-India movers, those are the features, not the bugs.

Moving from Mumbai or Bangalore? The biggest adjustments are pace and nightlife, Pune is genuinely quieter, kitchens close earlier, and weekend cultural rhythms are gentler. The compensations are climate, cost, space, and weekend access to the Sahyadris. Many intra-India movers describe Pune as "Mumbai-quality professional life at one-half the burn", and most decide to stay longer than they originally planned.

Neighbourhoods
Recommended Neighbourhoods
Pune has six clear premium pockets, each with its own character and commute profile. Your right choice depends on your office location, family situation, and lifestyle preferences. Here is IKAN's view of the best areas for intra-India relocations in 2026.
1
Koregaon Park
Pune's Cosmopolitan Heart
The most cosmopolitan address in Pune. Tree-lined "Lanes" 1-7, bungalow conversions and boutique apartments, dense café culture (German Bakery, Vohuman, Le Plaisir), Dorabjee's heritage grocery, and the Osho International Meditation Resort. Walkable in a way few Indian neighbourhoods are. Closest Pune comes to a European feel, popular with senior professionals relocating from Delhi or Mumbai who value walkability and café-and-culture life.
Across the Mula-Mutha river from KP, Kalyani Nagar offers similar premium positioning with more newer high-rise apartment stock. Closer to Yerwada and EON IT Park. Phoenix Marketcity (Viman Nagar) anchors the mall scene. Toscano, Burma Burma, The Asian Box for dining. Often the first choice for intra-India movers who want newer building stock at KP-adjacent positioning.

Viman Nagar
Airport-side Modern
Pune's polished east-side address, right beside the airport and anchored by Phoenix Marketcity. A mix of premium high-rise apartments and gated societies, popular with EON-Kharadi IT professionals, frequent flyers, and families. Symbiosis institutes and strong schools sit close by, and Kalyani Nagar and Kharadi are a short hop away, making it one of the most convenient premium pockets for newcomers.
The north-west premium corridor. Aundh has long been an affluent leafy area; Baner emerged from 2010 onward with premium high-rises; Balewadi High Street is the planned retail-F&B strip between them. The closest premium residential cluster to Hinjewadi IT (15 to 25 min commute). Family-friendly profile, cycling community, Kumar Sienna / Marvel / Panchshil / Kolte-Patil developments dominate the new stock.

Hinjewadi (Phases 1-3)
Walk-to-Work IT Townships
Pune's main IT employment hub, Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park hosts Infosys, Wipro, TCS, Cognizant, Tech Mahindra, and Persistent. Self-contained gated townships dominate residential life: Megapolis (Phase 3), Blue Ridge (Phase 1), Life Republic (Marunji), Xrbia. Designed for IT lifestyle with own schools, clubhouses, and supermarkets within township gates. Trade-off: commuting outside Hinjewadi at peak hours is 60 to 90 min.

6
Magarpatta / Kharadi
Planned Township & EON Corridor
Magarpatta City is India's first integrated planned township, offices, residential, retail, and amenities all within walking distance, built on farmer-cooperative land. Adjacent Kharadi hosts EON IT Park (IBM, Honeywell, Eaton, Wipro, Synechron), with good CBSE and ICSE school options ~10 minutes away in Kharadi/Wagholi. Amanora Park Town is another township nearby. Quieter and more managed than Hinjewadi.

Housing Market
Renting in Pune · 2026 Reality
Pune's rental market is mature and well-supplied. Not all domestic movers prefer Koregaon Park or Kalyani Nagar, most intra-India families settle in the IT and manufacturing corridors closer to their offices, where a 3BHK gated apartment typically runs ₹50k-1.5L/month. Rents in these corridors have risen 20-40% since 2023, driven by IT and infrastructure growth, while the established premium pockets of Koregaon Park and Kalyani Nagar have appreciated more modestly, roughly 8-15% over the same period. For intra-India movers from Mumbai, Pune is a substantial cost-of-living drop for equivalent space. From Bangalore or Hyderabad, the differential is smaller but still favourable.

Metro Line 3 effect: The Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar line, now nearing completion, is lifting demand across Hinjewadi, Balewadi, Wakad and Baner

Best value segment: Ravet, Punawale, Tathawade and Moshi on the PCMC/Hinjewadi fringe offer the strongest price-per-sq-ft value as ready inventory there is still absorbing
Corporate & NRI leasing: IT firms and GCCs in Kharadi-EON and Hinjewadi take 24 to 36 month company leases at a premium; NRI investors are concentrated in Baner, Balewadi and Kalyani Nagar

Schools
Pune Schools · All Options
Pune's school landscape spans CBSE, ICSE and State Board. For domestic moves you typically don't need the IB curriculum, CBSE and ICSE transfers are straightforward, and most preferred schools accept mid-year admissions with the right paperwork. For intra-India families the preferred options are The Bishop's School, St. Mary's (Camp), DPS, MIT, DAV, Pawar Public, Symbiosis, Vidya Valley and Loyola. Top CBSE schools typically have waitlists of 3 to 6 months with stringent admission criteria and mid-term admissions are difficult. Begin applications before your move whenever possible. IKAN recommends schools based on your corridor and curriculum preference.

Women's Safety: Pune is consistently rated among India's safer large cities for women, including in the central, IT-corridor and university neighbourhoods (KP, Kalyani Nagar, Aundh, Baner, Viman Nagar and the Hinjewadi townships). After dark, stick to well-lit main roads, prefer app-cabs (Ola/Uber/Rapido) to unmarked autos when travelling alone, and share your live trip status with family. Save the Women Helpline (1091) and Police (100) before you need them, 1091 connects to a 24×7 control room that can dispatch help and is the number to use for harassment or if you ever feel unsafe.
Dining & Social Life
Life in Pune · The Real Guide
If you are relocating from Mumbai or Bangalore, Pune's rhythm will feel gentler, kitchens close earlier, weekends are more residential. Quieter Nights
Pune Sleeps Earlier
Restaurant kitchens mostly close by 11pm and nightlife concentrates in KP, Kalyani Nagar and Balewadi, though online food delivery (Swiggy, Zomato) runs late, many outlets to midnight or 1-2 AM and some 24×7 depending on location. The pace is gentler than Mumbai or Bangalore; a feature of Pune, not a flaw.
Society Culture
Housing Society Life
Join your building's WhatsApp group on Day 1. The Society Secretary is your most important contact for everything from parking to maintenance. Pune's society culture is more low-key than Mumbai's, embrace the quieter rhythm.
Ganpati Season
Plan Your First August
Pune is THE city where Ganesh Chaturthi as a public festival was popularised. 11 days, the "Manache Ganpati" mandals, and the Visarjan procession through Lakshmi Road and Tilak Road. Old city is paralysed; outer Pune carries on. Plan travel before or after.
Sawai Gandharva
December Classical Festival
Annual four-night Hindustani classical music festival drawing ~50,000 attendees per night. The deepest classical-music tradition of any Indian metro. An essential cultural experience for new arrivals during winter.
Coworking
Flexible Workspaces
Coworking is well-developed across the corridors, WeWork and Awfis run premium flexible offices in Baner, Kharadi, Hinjewadi and Viman Nagar, alongside Smartworks and 91springboard. Useful for hybrid roles, new arrivals, and teams setting up before a permanent office.
Sports & Recreation
Clubs & Greens
Oxford Golf Club (Bavdhan) is Pune's premier golf destination, set in the Sahyadri foothills. Add the Poona Club, Deccan Gymkhana and corridor sports complexes for tennis, swimming and fitness, a strong club-and-recreation scene for families.
Home Services
Urban Company
Urban Company covers Pune comprehensively for at-home services, cleaning, appliance repair, salon, plumbing and electrical. Invaluable in your first weeks while you build local contacts and settle into a new neighbourhood.
Culture & Heritage
Pune's Cultural Depth
Relocating intra-India to Pune means arriving in a city with 350+ years of layered history, Peshwa, British, Gandhian, and modern Maharashtrian all visible simultaneously. This is not a city of glass-towered novelty. The Marathi cultural depth, classical music, theatre, literature, runs deeper here than anywhere else in India.
Aug-Sep
Ganesh Chaturthi · Pune's Soul
Pune is THE city where Bal Gangadhar Tilak transformed Ganpati into a public festival in 1893. The "Manache Ganpati", five honoured mandals including Kasba Ganpati and Tambdi Jogeshwari, anchor 11 days of mandap visits, processions, music, and devotion. The final Visarjan procession is one of India's great spectacles.
Year-round
Aga Khan Palace
Where Gandhi, Kasturba and Mahadev Desai were interned by the British (1942-44) during the Quit India Movement. Kasturba and Mahadev Desai's memorials sit in the palace grounds. The Italianate arches and 19 acres of gardens were built by Sultan Aga Khan III in 1892, and the building now houses the Gandhi National Memorial. A sober heritage visit, often the most memorable historical site for new arrivals to Pune.
December
Sawai Gandharva Music Festival
Annual Hindustani classical music festival, four nights at New English School ground, Mukundnagar. ~50,000 attendees per night. The deepest classical music tradition of any Indian metro, Kirana, Gwalior, and Agra gharanas all have Pune lineages. Founded in 1953 in memory of vocalist Sawai Gandharva and run by the Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal, it draws the country's finest vocalists and instrumentalists each December. Essential winter cultural experience, book passes early as nights sell out.
Year-round
Old City Heritage Trail
Shaniwar Wada (1732 Peshwa palace ruins) · Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Temple (Pune's most revered Ganesha shrine) · Lal Mahal (Shivaji's boyhood home) · Pataleshwar Cave Temple (8th century rock-cut Shiva temple) · Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum (a remarkable private collection of Indian arts and crafts) · Osho Ashram (the International Meditation Resort in Koregaon Park) · Pu La Deshpande / Okayama Japanese Garden (a serene Japanese-style garden) · Saras Baug · Parvati Hill. A weekend on foot in old Pune reveals more than years of guidebook reading.
Places of Worship: Pune is religiously diverse and easy to practise in. Hindu temples are everywhere (Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati, Parvati Hill, the ISKCON temple at Katraj); historic churches cluster in Camp and Koregaon Park (St Patrick's Cathedral, St Mary's, City Church); mosques serve Camp and the old city; gurudwaras are spread across the city; and there is a Jewish / Chabad presence in Koregaon Park, alongside the globally known Osho International Meditation Resort. Your building and society WhatsApp groups are the quickest way to find the nearest congregation and service times.
Local Language Guide
Marathi Essentials
Even if you are fluent in Hindi, Pune is a Marathi-first city in a way Mumbai isn't. Marathi is Maharashtra's official state language, and Pune is its cultural capital. A few Marathi phrases earn enormous goodwill from your neighbours, building staff, auto-rickshaw drivers, and shop owners. Punekars are particularly proud of their Marathi heritage.
नमस्कार
Greeting
Namaskar
The formal Marathi greeting. Use with your Society Secretary, landlord, building staff, or local shop owners. Far more respectful than a Hindi “namaste” in Pune, it signals you have arrived with intent.
कसा आहेस? / कशी आहेस?
Wellbeing
Kasa aahes? / Kashi aahes?
How are you? (male / female). “Theek aahe”, I'm fine, is the response. Exchange this with your kirana shopkeeper, building guard, or chaiwala for an instant human connection.
धन्यवाद
Thanks
Dhanyawad
Thank you in Marathi. Much more impactful than the Hindi “shukriya” or English “thanks” in a Pune context. Your auto-rickshaw driver, building guard, or pao-wallah at Bedekar will remember you for using it.
तुमचं नाव काय?
Introduction
Tumcha naav kay?
What is your name? Pair with “Maaza naav ___ aahe” (My name is ___) for a simple introduction. Used at the building lobby, with housekeeping, or with anyone you'll see daily.
पुणेकर
Identity
Punekar
A person from Pune. The local identity carries real pride, Punekars are famously precise about traffic, time, and their city's intellectual heritage. Calling yourself a “wannabe Punekar” earns instant goodwill at any dinner table.
सोसायटी सेक्रेटरी
Building
Society Secretary
The all-powerful building committee chair. Your first call for parking, maintenance, noise complaints, and guest passes. Introduce yourself in the first week with a box of Chitale Bandhu sweets, it sets the tone for your entire tenancy.
किती झाले?
Bargaining
Kiti zaale?
How much? Essential for auto-rickshaw fares, Laxmi Road shopping, and bargaining. Pune autos are historically more honest with meters than Mumbai or Delhi, but asking in Marathi shifts the dynamic in your favour.
मिसळ
Food
Misal
The Pune dish, a sprouts curry with farsan and pav. Bedekar, Shree Upahar, Katakirr, Ramnath, and Vaishali all claim the throne. Ask any Punekar where they go and you'll start a 20-minute debate.
जेवण झालं का?
Hospitality
Jevan zhala ka?
Have you eaten? (Marathi). The hospitality opener. If you say “Naahi” (the Marathi for “no”), not yet, someone will immediately find you food. Saying yes politely is also accepted.
मस्त आहे
Praise
Mast aahe
That's great / very good. Casual praise that fits anywhere from a Misal Pav at Bedekar to a Sawai Gandharva concert. Marathi speakers will smile when an intra-India arrival uses it naturally.
भाऊ, मीटर लाव
Transit
Bhau, meter laao
Brother, put the meter on. Universal request to Pune auto-rickshaw drivers. Often unnecessary, Pune autos run meters honestly more often than Mumbai/Delhi, but useful at peak hours and rain.
जुगाड

Weekend Escapes
Out of Pune · Where to Go
Pune sits 50km from the Sahyadri ranges, giving it arguably India's best weekend-escape map among major metros. Hill stations and Shivaji-era forts within an hour, strawberry country and rafting within 3 hours, Mumbai 3 hours west when you need a different city. Monsoon weekends in the ghats are a Pune-resident privilege.
1 hr by road
Lonavala & Khandala
Pune's classic weekend escape, twin hill stations on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway at 600m. Bhushi Dam, Tiger Point, Lonavala Lake, Karla & Bhaja Buddhist caves. Monsoon transforms the ghats into spectacular waterfalls. Chikki shops are an institution, bring boxes home for colleagues.

Pawna Lake near Lonavala is Pune's favourite lakeside-camping and sunset-tent getaway, ringed by Shivaji-era forts. Nearby Lavasa is the planned hill township with promenade, water sports and cafés. Pair with the Mulshi Dam backwaters for a full Sahyadri lake circuit, best October to February and again in the monsoon. Pawna, Lavasa and Mulshi draw a lively weekend crowd, so book camps early and head out before Saturday-morning traffic builds.
The Kundalika river drops through Konkan jungle for a few months each year (June-September), making Kolad India's most accessible white-water rafting destination. Operators handle Grade II-III runs for first-time rafters. A long-weekend stay-over is more relaxing than a one-day rush.

Mumbai
West on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, the new "Missing Link" tunnels-and-bridges section is now operational and cuts roughly 30 to 45 minutes off the ghat stretch, or a quick domestic flight. Domestic & International Flights
Pune as Your Travel Base
Pune International Airport (PNQ) has comprehensive domestic coverage but limited international flights, primarily to Gulf hubs. For long-haul, Mumbai CSMIA T2 is the standard play, reachable in 30 to 45 minutes by air or a faster Expressway drive now that the "Missing Link" is operational. The new Navi Mumbai International Airport is another option, around 110 km and a 2-2.5 hour drive from Pune. Many Pune residents book through-tickets connecting at CSMIA. Domestic connectivity from PNQ is strong: most major Indian metros within ~2.5 hours (Kolkata is 2h 35m).

About Your Airports
Pune International (PNQ) at Lohegaon handles ~10M passengers annually, comprehensive domestic, limited international (primarily Gulf hubs). 10 km / 15 to 25 min from Koregaon Park. For long-haul international travel, most travellers use Mumbai's CSMIA Terminal 2, a 30-45 minute flight, or a faster Expressway drive now that the "Missing Link" is operational. The new Navi Mumbai International Airport (~110 km, 2-2.5 hour drive) is an emerging alternative. Domestic check-in at PNQ: arrive 90 minutes early. The proposed Purandar International Airport remains in planning as of 2026.
Transport & Metro
Getting Around Pune
Pune Metro is now operational, the biggest infrastructure upgrade in the city's history. Purple Line PCMC-Swargate and Aqua Line Vanaz-Ramwadi are running, with the PMRDA Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar line (Line 3) in its final stage and opening expected mid-2026. Surface options, autos, Ola/Uber/Rapido cabs and PMPML buses, cover the rest (note: app-based bike taxis are currently not permitted in Maharashtra, though Ola, Uber and Rapido cars are fully operational). Many premium residents employ a personal driver. IKAN handles all RTO coordination for vehicle transfers and registration.
Pune Metro Lines (2026)
Purple Line, PCMC to Swargate
~17 km. Elevated through Pimpri-Chinchwad with underground section through Shivajinagar and Civil Court down to Swargate. Connects the PCMC industrial belt to central Pune. Now fully operational across the full alignment.
Aqua Line, Vanaz to Ramwadi
~14 km elevated east-west line through Kothrud, Deccan, Pune Junction, Yerwada, Ramwadi. Operational. Civil Court is the interchange with the Purple Line, making most premium Pune neighbourhoods accessible by Metro for the first time in the city's history.
Line 3, Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar (PMRDA)
The most-watched addition. ~23 km PPP project (Line 3) in its final stage of construction, opening expected mid-2026 with some sections phasing to late 2026; Civil Court is its interchange with the Purple and Aqua lines. When complete, this will be the single biggest transport upgrade Pune has ever had, a sub-30-minute Metro ride to central Pune that currently takes 60 to 90 minutes by road during peak.
PMPML Bus / BRTS
Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal runs the city bus network including BRTS (Bus Rapid Transit) corridor lanes on key arterials. The Chalo app provides live tracking. Useful for short hops; not yet at the convenience level of the Metro.
Day-to-Day Transport
Ola / Uber / Rapido
Cab coverage is full, keep all three apps installed; surge during peak hours and rain. App-based bike taxis are not permitted in Maharashtra, but Rapido cars run. Ola Corporate accounts via employer travel desk for Hinjewadi/Magarpatta commutes.
Auto-Rickshaw
Metered, generally honest in Pune. ₹25 first 1.5km then ~₹17/km. 25% night surcharge. "Bhau, meter laao" is the universal request, Marathi attempts always help.
Pune Metro
Purple & Aqua lines now running, Civil Court interchange. Smart-card / QR ticketing via the Maha Metro app. Fares ₹15-40, the fastest way across the central corridors.
Personal Driver
Many premium residents employ a full-time driver, typically ₹15,000-25,000/month including maintenance. Useful for Hinjewadi corridor and frequent Mumbai trips.
Key Tip for Intra-India Relocators: Hinjewadi traffic is Pune's defining infrastructure pain point. The Mumbai Highway / Wakad junction at peak hours (8-10am inbound, 6-9pm outbound) can add 60 minutes to any journey. Many IT employers run company shuttles from premium pockets to mitigate. The PMRDA Hinjewadi Metro line, when complete, will be the genuine solution.
Climate
What to Expect Each Month
Pune's climate is its defining advantage among Indian metros. Sitting at 560 metres on the Deccan Plateau, Pune offers cool dry winters (10-30°C), warm dry summers without coastal humidity, and a manageable monsoon at one-quarter Mumbai's rainfall. Many intra-India movers cite climate as the primary reason for choosing Pune.

Winter, Pune's Defining Season
November, February
10-30°C, low humidity, clear skies. Pune is genuinely at its best, cold mornings, warm afternoons. A proper jacket needed for December and January evenings. Coming from Mumbai or Bangalore, this is when Pune's climate advantage is most obvious. The cultural calendar peaks: Sawai Gandharva music festival, Pune International Film Festival, weekend treks to Sinhagad, Mahabaleshwar strawberry runs.
Light wool jacket needed Dec-Jan evenings
Best season for Sahyadri treks and weekend escapes
Cultural calendar peak, Sawai Gandharva mid-December
Warm Dry Summer
March, May
Warm to genuinely hot and dry, April highs around 35°C and May peaks of 40-42°C before the monsoon, but completely different from Mumbai or Chennai: there is no coastal humidity. Days are hot but evenings cool off, especially in older bungalow neighbourhoods with tree cover. Air conditioning is useful but not the survival tool it is in coastal metros. May brings dramatic pre-monsoon thunderstorms over the Sahyadris.
April ~35°C, May peaks 40-42°C, but dry, not humid coastal heat
Tree-canopied old neighbourhoods (Prabhat Rd, Aundh) noticeably cooler
May pre-monsoon storms spectacular over the ghats
Monsoon
June, September
~700mm in four months, about a quarter of Mumbai's monsoon, mostly in afternoon and evening showers. Temperatures drop to a pleasant 22-28°C. The drive west to Tamhini Ghat, Mulshi, and Lonavala becomes one of India's great seasonal experiences. Pune's drainage handles most rainfall, though older peths near the Mutha river can flood briefly in extreme spells.

Watch Out
What Nobody Tells Intra-India Relocators
These are the things Pune won't tell you upfront, but every experienced intra-India relocator eventually learns. Know them before you arrive.
Hinjewadi Traffic is Severe
If you are coming from Bangalore or Hyderabad, the broad pattern is familiar. But Hinjewadi-corridor peak hours are a special category. The Mumbai Highway / Wakad junction can add 60 minutes to any journey 8-10am or 6-9pm. Choose your neighbourhood with the commute in mind. The PMRDA Metro Line 3, opening mid-2026, will ease this, until then, plan accordingly.
Pune Sleeps Earlier
If you are arriving from Mumbai or Bangalore, the rhythm here is gentler. Most restaurant kitchens close by 11pm; nightlife is concentrated in KP, Kalyani Nagar, and Balewadi. Pune is a deeply cultural city, not a party city, a feature for families and serious professionals, but worth knowing before you arrive.
Limited Direct International Flights
Pune's airport (PNQ) covers domestic well but is limited internationally, primarily Gulf hubs. For US, Europe, East Asia connections you will route via Mumbai CSMIA. Build the short Mumbai flight or Expressway drive, now faster with the Missing Link operational, into your travel plans; the new Navi Mumbai airport (~2 to 2.5 hours away) is an emerging alternative. Many residents book through-tickets at CSMIA T2.
School Application Timelines
Pune's top schools, Bishop's, St. Mary's, DPS, MIT, Symbiosis, have genuine waitlists for the most popular grades. Top CBSE schools typically have waitlists of 3 to 6 months with stringent admission criteria; mid-term admissions are difficult. Apply before your move whenever possible. IKAN recommends schools based on your corridor and curriculum preference.
Lease and Deposit Norms
Pune uses Leave & License agreements of 11, 24 or 36 months with 3 months security deposit. Premium corridor properties may ask 4 to 6 months, IKAN negotiates. 5-10% annual escalation at renewal. Furnishing is typically semi-furnished. Never accept verbal agreements, insist on a stamped and registered Leave & License agreement before paying any deposit.
Old Peths Flooding
Pune monsoon is much milder than Mumbai's, but old peths near the Mutha and Mula rivers can flood briefly in extreme rainfall. Check flood history before renting in low-lying central Pune. KP, Kalyani Nagar, Aundh, Baner, Magarpatta, Hinjewadi townships, all handle monsoon well.
Winter AQI Spikes
Pune's air quality is generally better than Delhi or Mumbai, but November-December can see AQI spikes driven by temperature inversions, post-Diwali residue, and drifting crop-burning particulates. HEPA air purifiers are useful for families with young children. Premium developments with managed indoor air handle this well.
Title Verification Matters
Pune has a deep rental market but also a few unscrupulous brokers, particularly around Hinjewadi-corridor townships. Always insist on checking the ownership title, meet the owner and ensure a properly stamped and registered Leave & License agreement, terms run 11, 24 or 36 months. IKAN reviews every Leave & License agreement as standard. Be careful when dealing with online property listings.
Apps & Digital Life
Pune Digital Toolkit
Pune's digital infrastructure is excellent. Download these apps before you arrive and your first week will run significantly more smoothly. UPI payments are universal, even the Bedekar Misal counter accepts QR. Most apps cover the city comprehensively.
Ola / Uber / RapidoAll three cabs cover Pune comprehensively (bike taxis not permitted in Maharashtra; Rapido cars run). Ola Corporate accounts via employer travel desk for Hinjewadi / Magarpatta corridor commutes. Surge during peak hours and rain, keep them installed.
Maha Metro (Pune Metro)Tickets, route planning, smart-card top-up for the Purple and Aqua lines. Civil Court is the interchange. Fares ₹15-₹40 typical across the network.
Chalo (PMPML Buses)Live PMPML bus tracking, BRTS corridor routes, arrival times and mobile-ticket / pass top-up across the city bus network. The most reliable way to plan a short bus hop in Pune. (App-based bike taxis are currently not permitted in Maharashtra.)
Food, Grocery & Delivery
Zomato / SwiggyBoth cover Pune comprehensively. Delivery times 25 to 40 minutes; many outlets run to midnight or 1-2 AM, and some are 24×7 depending on location and platform. Zomato Gold worth it for regular restaurant orders in KP and Kalyani Nagar.
BigBasket / Blinkit / ZeptoBigBasket for scheduled weekly groceries. Blinkit and Zepto for 10-minute instant delivery, both excellent in KP, Kalyani Nagar, Aundh, Baner.
Utilities & Services
MSEDCLMaharashtra State Electricity Distribution, Pune's electricity provider. Register on arrival for online bill payment and auto-pay. Web portal is more reliable than the app.
Jio / Airtel / ACT FibernetJio and Airtel both excellent in Pune, port your number on arrival. ACT Fibernet has strong coverage in KP, Kalyani Nagar, Aundh, Baner, Hinjewadi townships. 100-300 Mbps standard.
Practo / 1mg / Urban CompanyPracto for GP appointments at Ruby Hall, Jehangir, Sahyadri, Manipal Pune. 1mg / Tata 1mg for online pharmacy and home sample collection. Urban Company for at-home services.
Settling In
Your First 30 Days in Pune
Intra-India moves to Pune are less bureaucratically intensive than international moves, but the logistics still benefit from a sequence. IKAN coordinates the time-sensitive items so nothing falls through the cracks.
1
Update Your Aadhaar Address
Update your Aadhaar to your new Pune address as soon as your rental agreement is signed, online via the UIDAI Self-Service Update Portal (myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in) with a valid proof of address, or in person at any Aadhaar Seva Kendra / enrolment centre. This is the prerequisite that the bank-account and school-admission steps below rely on, so do it first; the update typically reflects within a few days.
2
Bank Account Transfer or New Account
If your existing bank has Pune branches (HDFC, Axis Bank, ICICI, SBI, Kotak all do), transfer your account to a branch near your new address. Alternatively, open a new account at HDFC, HSBC, or Axis Bank with your updated Aadhaar, PAN, and rental agreement. New accounts typically open within 3-5 working days.
3
Vehicle Transfer · IKAN handles all RTO coordination
Transferring your existing vehicle's registration to a Pune (Maharashtra) RTO is paperwork-heavy. IKAN handles all RTO coordination, vehicle re-registration, address updates on RC, NOC from previous state, and driving licence address update via the Parivahan portal. Plan 4 to 6 weeks for completion.
4
Utilities & Building Setup
Register electricity in your name with MSEDCL (mahadiscom.in). Register on your building's WhatsApp group immediately, this is where maintenance, society meetings, and announcements are shared. Set up auto-pay for electricity, broadband (ACT/Jio Fiber), and piped gas if applicable. Introduce yourself to the Society Secretary in the first week.
5
School Admission Process
CBSE-to-CBSE transfers require the Transfer Certificate (TC) from your previous school, mark sheets, and Aadhaar. Apply to your target school as soon as you have a confirmed Pune address. Premium ICSE schools may require additional entrance assessments. IKAN's education team connects you with current admissions contacts.
6
Transport Setup · First Week
Download Ola, Uber, Rapido, Maha Metro, PMPML Chalo, and IRCTC apps immediately. Set up Ola Corporate via your employer's travel desk. If you anticipate Hinjewadi-corridor commutes or frequent Mumbai trips, arrange a personal driver through your building or society. Subscribe to PMC monsoon alerts if arriving before June.
